I called it “Seb’s online bits and pieces”
I sometimes make decisions which go against things I’ve said or done in the past. Over the weekend, I’ve decided ryders.net was going to live again. This is really just an other attempt at keeping in touch with people I value. Yet another attempt you may say. You are quite right!
MSN, Facebook & co.
Bloody technologies… the time spent chatting with too many people at once via Messenger, icq, etc. or the frequency at which I had to go back to Facebook to update a photo, a comment or something, simply became overwhelming. I’ve never really seen the point in a regular blog, not from my perspective anyway, since I work with computers all day, all week and in all honesty don’t feel like spending hours online when I get home.
The consequence of that, obviously, was to let a few friends and family members down, let a few too many emails slip sometimes for weeks, sometimes months! I’m not proud of that, but then again, as much as I like writing, I struggle to write to everyone and the phone is not always an option when you’re 14-16hrs ahead.
So I’d very much like to apologise to all of you, friends, people I love. People who have always supported me while I was leading my busy life.
Ok, but what now?
Funny enough I just recently turned 22 and it seems I actually want to talk about things. In the past years some of the most insignificant moments have had a very significant impact on who I am becoming. So a little bit like I would write a semi personal journal, I figured I could share these insignificant events with those of you who care reading!
As you can see a little bit already, I can be quite verbose sometimes and so this promises to be interesting!
Reading a little about me will tell you how much I like music, life, people and on top of it all, discussions, ideas, opinions. I’ve also started to read again, well books more than only newspapers, and this after a 10year break after uni! so I might write a little bit about, if it fascinates me to be worth mention!
There’s a couple of pages up already, please have a browse and feel free to leave notes. Being realistic I will not be writing every day or weeks, but every fortnight to a month or so.. :) Topics to be covered (most are still empty): Food & Wine and all those great dinners and degustations I like to be part of, couldn’t not talk about music which constantly fills my life. Since I work in technologies, I figured I’m surely going to write about them a little and finally since the world is so vast and great, so diverse and flavourful, I’m surely going to have to talk about my whereabouts a little!
Welcome back!
Then ryders.net is ryders.net.au, but what’s Ryders
Back in 1993, when I first got online I thought of various nicknames or handles to use online. I’ve never been a good seb75 or s3b4s. However, back in those days, I owned a fair few Ryders sunnies and thought Ryders could be an interesting name. Bike rider, life rider, rider for life.. you know.
Years later I registered ryders.net and built various websites over the years. Until I moved to Australia, and became ryders.net australianised or also known as ryders.net.au.
Online bits and pieces
So in the end, I’ve got myself this Pied-à-terre, online since it seems to be the only place where people from all over the world can really keep in touch with me and my hyper-active lifestyle. Mobile phones and numbers change, postal and email addresses change, people change countries and languages regularly now. Yet technologies help at keeping us all connected. Scary in a way, some may say. But very impressive also.
I don’t know if I’ll always be online or whether this site will always be up… but chances are the Internet is not going anywhere!
